A good quality Turkish Konya rug with lovely muted pastel colours. Naturally dyed, the rug has a wool foundation as well as wool pile. the pink field with three large hooked cream, yellow and blue medallions flanked by a pair of beasts to each end, in a cream, yellow and madder chevron borders, between two blue and yellow chevron stripes.

Some evidence of ware (I've highlighted the worst of it in the photos) but generally in good condition. Dating from around the middle of the last century.

In 1292, Marco Polo was the first to make mention of the Konya carpets in writing when he called them the most beautiful in the world. Konya carpets are named for the region in which they were made. Famed for their magnificent colours, they are the most sought after of the Turkish village rugs. They can be considered the Turkish equivalent of Caucasian Kazaks, no less sought after and far rarer.
