An authentic antique Keris / Kris from Java, Indonesia. Both the blade and wooden sheath are both in good condition. The carving of the hardwood handle is of very high quality and the silver ring securing the hilt to the blade is very ornate (though slightly damaged).
The blade is well etched from years of having been acid washed. Dating from the 19th century, though the blade may be older as handles and sheaths were sometimes replaced.
//
Keris's are considered magical objects and the blades are often blended with sacred ingredients and powerful hyang (spirits) are often invoked into the blade during the manufacturing process. Often it would take a maker years to make a single blade as the work could only be done on certain days after a period of meditation.
An empowered Keris is believed to be capable of bringing good luck or bad luck to its owner. To test whether a particular blade is a good match for its owner, it is advised to sleep with the Keris under your pillow and if you have good dreams, then that is a good omen.
A beautiful object that looks excellent on display
