Excellent antique Keris / Kris from peninsula Malaysia. The fine carving of the ebony handle and sheath is of a high quality and both the blade and sheath are in good condition.

This type of Keris is known in Peninsula Malaysia as a Tumbuk Lada which literally translates pepper crusher, probably due to its shape. It is a traditional dagger said to be originating from the Riau Archipelago.

A beautiful object that looks great on display.

Keris's are considered magical objects and the blades are often blended with sacred ingredients and powerful hyang (spirits) are often invoked into the blade during the manufacturing process. Often it would take a maker years to make a single blade as the work could only be done on certain days after a period of meditation.

An empowered Keris is believed to be capable of bringing good luck or bad luck to its owner. To test whether a particular blade is a good match for its owner, it is advised to sleep with the Keris under your pillow and if you have good dreams, then that is a good omen.
