A really nice example of a Sudanese arm dagger. Probably form the Mahdist period, these knives were carried by followers of Mahdi who defeated the British in 1880. The sheath is made from cow hide and snake or crocodile skin and the handle is covered in the same. The blade has been engraved in a typical pattern. The loop is designed to allow the knife to be worn on the lower arm.
