These wonderful antique skis were found in a house cellar close to Seamon Moss school in Cheshire who provided a pony and sledge to the South Pole Expedition led by Robert Falcon Scott. As a thank you, Scott visited the school, posing for a picture with the boys. The skis bear the same mark ('L.H. Hagen & Co Christiania') as this pair held at the Museum of Wales that belonged to a geologist from the mission:

I contacted to the Royal Geographical Society to see if they could provide any more information and they said that they may have been used on the Terra Nova expedition but could not confirm it.

Scott was converted to the use of skis during a visit to Nansen in Norway. Nansen arranged a meeting between Scott and Tryggve Gran (a Polar novice but an expert skier), and Scott subsequently ordered ski for the expedition from Hagen's store in Christiania (Oslo).
