A beautiful pair of bronze squirrel bookends by French sculptor Max Le Verrier (1891-1973). Made circa 1930.
Known for his stylized Art Deco statues Max Le Verrier had his own workshop where he also collaborated with other artists such as Pierre Le Faguays, Marcel Bouraine and others. He had his own recipe for his metal alloy and also used a very characteristic green patina.
These bookends have a heavy metal original pedestal and are both signed.
There are a couple of dings that I've done my best to highlight in the photographs and one squirrel has lost its ears at some point and been mended but the damage is not obvious and they still look great.
