Nice Dan ge or gle mask that appears to be quite old The Dan people use these masks to embody the ge or gle, forest spirits that inhabit the jungle. These masks are accompanied by full body costumes often made of fur and feathers. The dances are inspired by dreams. The Dan are a Mande ethnic group who live in an area in the northwest of Ivory coast and part of Liberia. They are well known for their art, particularly their distinctive mask style as well as their secret society, Gor (dan for leapord), that focuses on peacekeeping between different communities.
