Patinated bronze candelabrum with 2 small oil lamps hanging on chains. The tripod has satyrs legs with hooved feet, rams heads, foliate arms and finials. A tree emerges from the tripod and a crane is perched atop the tree. The crane holds a wire form in its beak that holds two small vessels on chains. The vessels would have been filled with oil and wicks inserted into the oil. Most likely cast in Italy, in the late 19th century and modelled after discoveries at Pompei and Herculaneum. These types of objects were popular with Grand Tour travellers during this time and that is probably how the lamp found its way to the UK.
